San Diego Trip

Bernard and I went down to San Diego for a week at the end of Nov (Nov 26 until Dec 2)to escape the cold weather in Vancouver. Boy, did we go down in time. It started snowing the night before we went and there was around 2 inches of snow when we left the next morning. Our flight was delayed for an hour because the plane needed to be de-iced.

Our flight took off just before they shut down the airport due to the heavy snow fall.

The weather in San Diego was lovely. This is a picture of us at the La Jolla Cove, a popular tourist and local hang out spot.

We also drove up to L.A. to see my old friend Jennie. We had lunch with her and her brother John. Here's a picture of us at her living room. I hadn't see John in years so it was good to meet up with him.

We later had dinner at her house. We were really full still from the yummy Korean lunch that we only wanted some simple veggies for dinner. The salted makarel from the korean store was surprising delicious.

Jennie has two active young kids. The younger kid Teddy is only 1 year old and 3 months but he is a little energizer bunny. He was running around non-stop except during the meal. This is the only close up picture we could get of him because he moved too fast.

While we were in San Diego, we met up with my old co-worker Theresa. We used to work together a lot and this was the first time I saw her in 2 years. It was nice to catch up with her.

Other than that, we went to the beach, Mexican old town, Balboa Park, and the shopping outlet. On the day that we visited Balboa Park, they were just setting up the stage for the annual Christmas event.

I liked the spanish style builds in the park.

One of the most interesting spots in Balboa park is the green house. We found some bug eating plants and some beautiful orchids.

After Balboa Park, we went to Del Coloronado and visited the hotel and the beach area. The hotel was build in the 1800's and Marilyn Monroe shot a movie there in the 60's. The beach was beatiful. We spent some time just sitting in the sun and enjoying the view.

One of things I was looking forward to when we went to San Diego was eating the steam live black cod as it is something we don't get in Vancouver. But it turned out that it wasn't the right season for it. I was really disappointed :(

But I decided not to let this sort of small things bother me and I cheered up again after a few minute.

We enjoyed our stay at a B&B in La Jolla. The lady that ran the B&B was very nice. The breakfast was delicious and the house had breath taking view of the ocean. Humming birds are frequent visitors to her house.

We also visited the famous Mexican Old Town. The shops looked beatiful with all the Christmas lights there. Bernard bought two Mexican skirts for me as Christmas presents. He said I should wear more colorful shirts.

After going to the beach, Old Town and Balboa Park, we went to the outlet. We bought a lot of things from Tommy Hillfiger. Bernard bought a few T-shirts, sweatshirts and even picked up a tie. I bought 4 pairs of jeans from the Gap. It would the hard to fit all these things in the suitcase!

The flight back home wasn't so smooth. The plane had some engine trouble after we left the gate and had to turn back. They fixed it and put us on the plane again only to find out something else wasn't working. We had to be transferred to another flight to San Fran and with another flight delay, we didn't get home until 1 am Sunday morning instead of 3 pm Sat afternoon. Our luggages were also lost in the process and we didn't get them back until the next day. My advise is: don't go with Air Canada if you can help it. They are terrible! But all in all, we had a wonderful time in San Diego.
